House Inquisitio

INQUISITIO means “inquiry” or “investigation” in Latin. This term is often used to describe individuals who are strategic, logical, and analytical in their approach to the world. Members of House Inquisitio are often highly skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking, and conceptualization.

Inquiry, Insight, Innovation

The motto Ex Libris, means “From the Books” Members of House Inquisitio are also known as “Scholars.”

Residents of House Inquisitio are problem solvers, especially if the problem is related to the many complex systems in the world around us. Members might tackle problems in organic systems such as plants and animals, or in mechanical systems such as railroads and computers, or in social systems such as families and governments. Whatever their interest, they analyze systems to understand how they work, so they can figure out how to make them work better.

In working with problems, residents of House Inquisitio try to find solutions that have application in the real world, but they are even more interested in the abstract concepts involved, the fundamental principles or natural laws that underlie the case. Most interested in the most efficient solutions possible, they often eschew political correctness. Likewise, they will disregard any authority or customary procedure that wastes time and resources, preferring to listen to anyone who has something useful to teach.

The House Inquisitio crest features a book symbolizing knowledge, a chessboard to represent strategy, and a sea otter named Riddle. Sea otters are regarded as one of the most intelligent mammals, using rocks as tools to open clams and hammer shells off rocks. They have also been known to play basketball, stack cups, and break into vending machines.

House Inquisitio Mascot: Riddle the Clever

RIDDLE THE CLEVER was a remarkably intelligent sea otter who made her home in the picturesque kelp forests of the Pacific Northwest. She was known for extraordinary problem-solving abilities and an insatiable curiosity.

Riddle the Clever

One sunny morning, as Riddle floated on her back, cracking open a clam with a stone tool she had crafted, she noticed something wrong in the kelp forest below. The usual abundance of sea urchins, a keystone species in the ecosystem, were dwindling. Riddle’s keen observations and analytical thinking led her to conclude that the otter population was growing, and they were consuming an unsustainable number of urchins, upsetting the balance of the kelp forest.

Riddle gathered the other sea otters, and explained the concept of ecosystem balance, using logical arguments to persuade her fellow otters to adopt a more sustainable diet. Together, they devised a plan to regulate their sea urchin consumption, ensuring that the kelp forest ecosystem would remain healthy and vibrant. Riddle’s rationality, problem-solving abilities, and logical thinking were cherished by her fellow sea creatures. Her impact was not only felt by her fellow sea otters but throughout the entire ecosystem.
